Explication

凭 can introduce the basis for a judgement or the means that allows an action, such as 凭经验, 凭票, 凭努力. It is not the same as 因为; 因为 gives a cause, while 凭 highlights what someone uses or relies on. Do not use 凭 before a full reason clause. Compared with 靠, 凭 often sounds more like relying on a qualification, evidence, or specific basis.
