Explication

不禁 is usually followed by a reaction such as 笑, 哭, 想, 问, 感叹. It is close to 不由得, but 不禁 often highlights being unable to restrain the feeling or reaction. It does not mean “must”; for forced action, use 不得不.

Using 不得不 for laughing from emotion: 我不得不笑了起来。Use 不禁 or 不由得 for an uncontrollable reaction: 我不禁笑了起来。
