Explication

面临着 is more formal than 面对 and often appears in reports or analysis. The object is usually a challenge, pressure, problem, risk, or choice, not an ordinary object. Do not confuse it with 承担着: 面临着 is about encountering a situation; 承担着 is about bearing responsibility or duty.
