Verb + 了 + Number + 次/遍: 次 counts how many times an action happens; 遍 counts complete passes from beginning to end.
Use 次 for frequency in general: 去过三次, 看了两次. Use 遍 when the action goes through the whole content or process: 读一遍课文, 听两遍录音. The number phrase usually comes after the verb, often after 了: 看了三次. With objects, the object may come before the verb: 这本书我看了两遍.
