未必 is placed before the part that the speaker does not fully accept. It does not mean a direct “no”; it means the result is uncertain or not always true. It is often used to challenge assumptions such as expensive equals good or more equals better. Do not combine it carelessly with another negative word. Compared with 不一定, 未必 is slightly more written and often sounds more thoughtful or argumentative.

자주 하는 실수

Treating 未必 as a direct negative: 他未必来 = He will not come.他未必来 means “He may not come / He is not necessarily coming,” not a definite refusal.
Using both 未必 and 不一定 together: 他未必不一定同意。Choose one: 他未必同意 or 他不一定同意。
