Frequency and repetition adverbs (频率、重复副词)
常 and 常常 both mean 'often' and describe frequent habits. 再 means 'again' or 'once more' but only for actions that haven't happened yet — use it for future repetition, suggestions, or continued actions.

Resumo da lição
Formula: Subject + 常/常常 + verb (for habits); Subject + 再 + verb (for future repetition). Meaning: 常/常常 = often/frequently (habitual); 再 = again/once more (future only). Key rule: 再 CANNOT describe past repetition — for that, use 又 (HSK 2). Model sentences: 她常常去健身房。/ 你再说一遍。
Frequency and repetition adverbs modify verbs to describe how often something happens or whether it will happen again.
常 and 常常 (often/frequently): • Both mean 'often' — 常常 is slightly more emphatic but both are correct at HSK 1. • They describe regular or habitual actions: 她常常去健身房。(She often goes to the gym.) • Position: always before the verb — 我常去图书馆, NOT 我去图书馆常.
再 (again / once more — future only): • 再 is for actions that will be repeated or continued: 你再说一遍。(Say it one more time.) • It can also signal a continuation: 他下午再来。(He'll come again this afternoon.) • IMPORTANT: 再 only works for FUTURE repetition. It cannot be used for something that already happened again in the past. For past repetition, Chinese uses 又 (you'll learn this at HSK 2+).
Common usage scenarios: — 常/常常: talking about your daily routines, habits, hobbies — 再: asking someone to repeat; planning to do something again; giving instructions
When NOT to use: — 昨天他再来了。(He came again yesterday.) → Wrong: 再 cannot describe past repetition. Use 又. — 我常常去昨天。→ Wrong: Frequency adverbs describe habits, not specific past events.
Estrutura gramatical

常/常常 describe frequent or habitual actions. 再 describes repetition or continuation of a future action.

我常在家学习中文。
Wǒ cháng zài jiā xuéxí Zhōngwén.

Nǐ zài shuō yī biàn, hǎo ma?
再 is for FUTURE repetition only. When describing something that happened again in the PAST, use 又 (taught at HSK 2). Never use 再 for past repeated actions.
Frequency adverbs must come BEFORE the verb. Placing 常常 after the verb is a direct translation error from English/Vietnamese word order.
