课程摘要
Action-measure phrases tell us HOW MANY TIMES an action is performed. Common measure words: 次 (cì - times, general), 遍 (biàn - times, from start to finish), 趟 (tàng - trips), 下 (xià - times, casual). Place the measure phrase AFTER the verb.
1. WHAT THEY DO: Action-measure phrases (动量短语) count repetitions of an action — they answer "how many times did someone do something?" The measure word follows the verb and is preceded by a number.
2. COMMON MEASURE WORDS AND THEIR SPECIFIC USES: • 次 (cì): general "times" — use for any action counted by occurrence (去了三次, 说了两次, 见过他三次). This is the default when in doubt. • 遍 (biàn): one complete pass from beginning to end — use when you read, watch, or listen to something all the way through (读了两遍, 看了一遍电影). Each "遍" is a full cycle. • 趟 (tàng): one round trip or errand — use with travel or visit actions like 去, 来, 跑 (来了一趟, 跑了一趟超市 = made a trip to the supermarket). • 下 (xià): casual, light, brief touches — used in spoken language for gentle or quick actions (敲了两下, 打了一下, 按一下). • 声 (shēng): sound-related actions — used when calling out or making a sound (叫了一声, 喊了两声).
3. POSITION RULES: • Basic position: verb + (了) + number + measure word (我去了三次) • With pronoun objects (him, me, you): pronoun MUST go between verb and measure phrase (我叫了他一声, NOT *我叫了一声他) • With regular noun objects: two options are both acceptable — (a) verb + object + measure: 我去了北京三次, or (b) verb + measure + object: 我去了三次北京
4. 次 vs. 遍 — KEY DISTINCTION: • 次 = any occurrence, regardless of whether complete (看了三次 = watched it 3 times, maybe partial each time) • 遍 = complete pass through from start to finish (看了三遍 = watched the whole thing 3 times) • Best use for 遍: reading texts, watching films, listening to audio all the way through
5. WHEN NOT TO USE: Stative verbs (知道, 是, 有, 喜欢) cannot take action-measure words. You cannot say *他知道三次 or *她是两次.
6. FUTURE ACTIONS: Drop 了 for actions not yet completed: 我想再去一次 (I want to go one more time).
7. COMMON MISTAKES: (a) Putting the number before the verb (*我三次去了 → correct: 我去了三次); (b) Putting a pronoun object after the measure phrase (*我叫了三次你 → correct: 我叫了你三次); (c) Using 次 when 遍 is more accurate for complete reading or viewing.
语法句型
Subject + Verb + 了 + Number + Action-measure word (action measure after verb)
States how many times a completed action occurred. The action-measure phrase follows the verb directly. Use this when there is no object, or the object is implied.
我去了三次。
Wǒ qù le sān cì.
I went three times.
他敲了两下。
Tā qiāo le liǎng xià.
He knocked twice (lightly).
她叫了一声。
Tā jiào le yì shēng.
She called out once.
语法句型
Subject + Verb + Pronoun + Number + Action-measure word (when object is a pronoun)
When the object is a pronoun (me, you, him, her…), it MUST come between the verb and the measure phrase. This rule applies to all pronouns without exception.
我叫了你三次。
Wǒ jiào le nǐ sān cì.
I called you three times.
老师看了她一眼。
Lǎoshī kàn le tā yì yǎn.
The teacher glanced at her once.
妈妈打了他两下。
Māma dǎ le tā liǎng xià.
Mom gave him two light smacks.
语法句型
Subject + Verb + 了 + Noun Object + Number + Action-measure word (noun object before measure)
When the object is a regular noun, it typically appears before the measure phrase in spoken Chinese. The alternative (measure before object) is also grammatically correct.
我看了这本书两遍。
Wǒ kàn le zhè běn shū liǎng biàn.
I read through this book twice (from cover to cover each time).
她去了超市一趟。
Tā qù le chāoshì yī tàng.
She made a trip to the supermarket.
