Linking adverbs 也 and 还 connect related pieces of information within a sentence or across sentences.

也 (also / too): • Used to say that something is EQUALLY true for another person or situation: 我喜欢音乐，她也喜欢。(I like music; she likes it too.) • Can link two facts about the SAME subject: 他会说法语，也会说日语。(He can speak French and also Japanese.) • Position: ALWAYS before the main verb, after the subject: Subject + 也 + verb. • Cannot start a sentence alone: 也我会说中文。→ 我也会说中文。

还 (also / in addition / still): • Adds something EXTRA on top of what was already mentioned: 我要米饭，还要一碗汤。(I want rice and also a bowl of soup.) • Can also mean 'still' — a state continues: 他还没来。(He still hasn't come.) • In questions: 还有什么？(What else is there?) • Position: same as 也 — before the main verb, after the subject.

Key difference between 也 and 还: — 也: emphasizes SIMILARITY or EQUALITY ('the same is also true') — 还: emphasizes ADDITION ('on top of that, there's more')

Example comparison: • 她也喝咖啡。(She drinks coffee too — same as someone else.) • 她还喝咖啡。(She also drinks coffee — in addition to other drinks she mentioned.)

When NOT to use: — Never place 也/还 before the subject: 也她会说中文。 — Do not use 也 and 还 together casually: 我也还要去。(Choose one based on meaning.)
