dòngtài zhùcí: le
Aspect particle 了 (动态助词:了)
了 placed directly after a verb marks that an action has been completed. It does NOT simply mean 'past tense' — it signals that something specific happened and is done. To negate, use 没/没有 and drop 了.
ตัวอย่างหลัก
下课了,我去买了一杯奶茶——一个"了"说完了动作,另一个"了"说变化!
Xià kè le, wǒ qù mǎi le yì bēi nǎichá — yí ge 'le' shuō wán le dòngzuò, lìng yí ge 'le' shuō biànhuà!
Class is over, and I went to buy a milk tea — one 了 marks a completed action, the other marks a change!

สรุปบทเรียน
Formula: Subject + Verb + 了 (+ specific object). Meaning: marks that a specific action is completed — not simply 'past tense'. Key usage: use 了 when reporting a done deal with a clear object or amount. Negate with 没/没有 (drop 了). Model sentence: 我买了一本书。/ 她没买衣服。
The aspect particle 了 (动态助词了) attaches to a verb to indicate that the action has reached completion. Think of it as a 'done' stamp on the verb, not a past-tense marker.
When to use 了: (1) To report a completed action — 我买了一本书 (I bought a book). (2) When a specific amount or object follows — 他吃了两个苹果 (He ate two apples). (3) To describe a sequence of completed events — 我回家了,吃了饭,然后睡觉了。
When NOT to use 了: (1) Habitual/routine past — do NOT say 我以前每天了喝咖啡; instead say 我以前每天喝咖啡. (2) States or conditions — do NOT add 了 to adjectives or stative verbs like 知道, 喜欢. (3) After negation — use 没/没有 and remove 了: 我没买书, NOT 我不买了书.
Common mistake: Learners often add 了 to every verb when talking about the past. Only add 了 when there is a clear completed, bounded action — not for general past descriptions.
Note: Sentence-final 了 (语气助词了) is different — it marks a change of state or a new situation (下课了 = class is over now). This lesson focuses on verb-suffix 了 only.
รูปประโยคไวยากรณ์
Verb + 了 (+ specific object)
了 after a verb marks that an action has been completed. Often used with a specific quantity or object to anchor the completion.
我买了一本书。
Wǒ mǎi le yì běn shū.
I bought a book.
她做了作业,然后去看朋友。
Tā zuò le zuòyè, rán hòu qù kàn péngyou.
She finished her homework and then went to see a friend.
她没衣服。
了 (verb-suffix) cannot follow adjectives like 累. For past states, simply describe with the adjective. (Sentence-final 了 is a separate usage.)
To negate a completed action, use 没/没有 and remove 了. Using 不 with 了 changes the meaning entirely (refusing to continue an action).
เติมคำในช่องว่าง:
Tā méi mǎi yīfu.
She did not buy clothes.
了 does not belong in habitual or routine statements. Reserve 了 for specific, completed, one-time actions.
