人称代词

Personal pronouns (人称代词) let you talk about people without repeating names. At HSK 1, the core forms are 我, 你, 您, 他, 她, 我们, 你们, 他们, and 她们. They do not change form for subject and object: 我 can mean both “I” and “me,” and 他 can mean both “he” and “him.”

Use 我 for yourself, 你 for the listener, 您 for one listener when you want to be polite, 他 for a male person, 她 for a female person, and 们 for groups of people: 我们, 你们, 他们, 她们. In speech, 他 and 她 sound the same (tā), but the written characters are different.

Pronouns can stand before nouns to show relationship or possession, often without 的 in close relationships: 我妈妈, 他朋友, 我们老师. With ordinary objects, 的 is normally clearer: 我的书, 你的手机.

When not to use: Do not add 们 after a noun that already has a number phrase: 三个学生们 is wrong; say 三个学生 or 学生们. Do not use 您 as a plural form; 您 is polite singular. In basic HSK 1 statements, keep the subject clear unless context already makes it obvious.
