Ringkasan pelajaran
Formula: A + 是 + B (noun) for identity; A + 是 + adjective + 的 for specific features. Meaning: 是 works like an equals sign. Key usage: identify people, things, relationships, or highlight a feature. Model sentences: 他是我的老师。/ 这是他的书。/ 花是白的。 Note: never use 是 before a plain adjective (use 很); possession uses 有, not 是.
The 是 sentence (是字句) is used to establish identity or classification: A equals B, or A belongs to category B. It is one of the first sentence types a learner must master.
Core usage: 1. A + 是 + B (noun): identity or classification — 他是老师 (He is a teacher), 这是我的书 (This is my book), 我是中国人 (I am Chinese). 2. A + 是 + adjective + 的: emphasizes a specific feature, often used for color, material, or origin — 花是白的 (The flower is white [specifically white]), 这件衣服是新的 (This piece of clothing is new).
When to use 是: always use 是 when linking two nouns for identity — 她是我的朋友 (She is my friend).
When NOT to use 是: - Do NOT use 是 before a bare adjective predicate. 她是漂亮 is wrong. Use 她很漂亮 or 她真漂亮! - Do NOT use 是 for possession — use 有: 我有书 (I have a book), NOT 我是书. - Do NOT confuse 是 sentences with 在 sentences (location): 他在学校 (He is at school) — location uses 在, not 是.
