PandaBoo is built on a simple rule: your data exists to serve your Chinese learning journey — nothing else. This policy explains clearly what we collect, why we collect it, and the concrete steps we take to keep your personal information safe.

Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to deliver and improve your Chinese learning experience:

  • Account details (email address, display name, profile photo)
  • Learning progress and performance data (dictation scores, shadowing history)
  • Usage statistics and personal content preferences
  • Device and browser information for technical optimization
  • Feedback and messages you send to our team

How We Use Your Data

The data you provide helps PandaBoo personalize and improve every aspect of your Chinese learning experience:

  • Personalize your Chinese learning path based on your level, goals, and interests
  • Analyze your progress to recommend relevant dictation and shadowing exercises
  • Improve platform quality and expand the Chinese video learning library
  • Send feature updates and actionable Chinese learning tips (only with your consent)
  • Provide responsive technical support when you need it

We will never sell your data — period

This is a non-negotiable commitment at PandaBoo. User data is not our product:

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party under any circumstances
  • We do not share your learning data with advertisers or commercial partners for targeting purposes
  • We do not build user profiles or monetize personal information in any form
  • Your data is used solely to operate and improve our Chinese language learning service
  • We apply strict international data protection standards across all systems

Third-Party Services We Use

PandaBoo relies on a small set of trusted technical partners to run the platform:

  • Hosting and streaming of Chinese learning video content
  • Application performance monitoring and error tracking
  • Customer support and communication management

Voice Chat Data — Chinese Speaking Practice

Voice Chat lets you practice Chinese pronunciation with real users. We handle all audio data with a privacy-first approach:

Audio Data

Your voice in Voice Chat is protected by design:

  • All calls use direct peer-to-peer connections via WebRTC — audio streams never pass through or get stored on PandaBoo's servers
  • We do not record, store, or analyze any voice conversations
  • Audio data exists only for the duration of the call and is discarded the moment it ends
  • Microphone access requires your explicit browser permission and can be revoked at any time in your settings

Matching Data

To connect you with the right practice partner, we temporarily process:

  • Your selected Chinese proficiency level (HSK-based)
  • Conversation topics you choose before joining (optional, session-only)
  • Online status and queue position (real-time only, never persisted)
  • All matching data is discarded immediately after the session ends

Required Personal Information

Voice Chat requires limited personal information to ensure a safe experience:

  • Date of birth — required once for age verification (13+ only), stored permanently and cannot be changed
  • Gender — collected once for matching purposes, stored permanently and cannot be changed
  • Display name and avatar are shown to your practice partner for the duration of the call

In-Call Text Messages

Text messages sent during a Voice Chat session follow a no-storage policy:

  • Messages are transmitted in real time and exist only for the duration of the active call
  • No message content is stored on our servers after the call ends
  • Message content is not monitored or analyzed unless a specific violation report is submitted

Your Rights Over Your Personal Data

You have full control over your data on PandaBoo:

  • The right to access and review all personal information we hold about you
  • The right to correct any inaccurate or outdated information
  • The right to request complete deletion of your account and associated data
  • The right to export your Chinese learning progress data
  • The right to opt out of marketing communications at any time

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional protections under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • The right to know exactly what personal information we collect and how we use it
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information from our systems
  • The right to opt out of the sale of personal information (PandaBoo does not sell user data)
  • The right not to face discrimination for exercising any of your privacy rights
  • The right to designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf
  • The right to receive your personal data in a portable, reusable format

GDPR Data Protection Rights (EU)

Users in the European Union are fully protected under the General Data Protection Regulation:
